LipSync Post installs Genetic Engineering and improves efficiency by 50%

Leading London post house gains benefits from Quantel shared workflow solution

15 February 2010: LipSync Post, the leading London post house, recently installed a Quantel Genetic Engineering shared workflow solution to support its two Quantel Pablo color correction suites and iQ DI system. All three systems can now work with the same shared media without wasting valuable time transferring media between suites or having to manage multiple different versions. As a result, Colorist Lee Clappison estimates that LipSync Post is already benefiting from a 50% improvement in efficiency, and anticipates further gains "as we learn how to get even more out of the new workflow possibilities that Genetic Engineering offers".

Ian Dury biopicThe majority of LipSync's work is movie DI, with the company frequently handling all post production from scanning, effects, sound and grading to deliverables. 'Sex&Drugs&Rock&Roll' and 'Nowhere Boy' - recipients of six BAFTA nominations between them - are two such recent projects. LipSync has also just been awarded the post production for the Ruby Films' production 'Jane Eyre', directed by Cary Fukunaga. LipSync also specialises in longform TV - The BBC feature 'A Passionate Woman' starring Billie Piper is currently nearing completion.

"We're able to do prep work such as dust busting, dropping in effects shots, sync checking and versioning on the iQ while the creative work continues uninterrupted on the Pablos. It's a much better way to work from a creative point of view because you don't interrupt the flow, and it's also greatly appreciated by clients because it eliminates the hanging around waiting for non-creative jobs to happen," Clappison explains.

Lee Clappison of Lipsync at PabloAs well as installing Genetic Engineering, LipSync has also upgraded all its Quantel systems to the latest V4 software and added the Stereo3D option. "We see the Stereo3D market taking off rapidly now and offering real potential revenue streams," Clappison adds, "We have run extensive 3D tests and we are now in a position to offer full-on Stereo3D post production alongside our 2D expertise."
